kidney disease Treatment options In cases of renal failure, there are 3 therapeutic options; the selection process depends upon many factors, as: general condition of the patient, doctor’s clinical point of view & the severity of the case, etC
Kidney disease Treatment options
These options are
It’s the most common option for treatment of renal failure, it’s done by withdrawal of the blood from the body slowly, and circulating it through the dialysis machine.
This machine is an artificial kidney designed to remove toxins and excess electrolytes and water from the blood, and return it again inside the body as a clean normal blood.
This process takes about 4 hours, 3 times weekly.
2. Peritoneal dialysis
It is an advanced option compared with classic hemodialysis, it is done by using the peritoneum (which is a delicate membrane lines the abdominal cavity and covers the internal organs) to clean the blood from toxins.
To do peritoneal dialysis in a correct manner
the peritoneal cavity is filled with a specific fluid called “dialysate”, which absorbs toxins and excess electrolyte from the body.
After that, this dialysate is drained out to be cleaned and then put it back inside the peritoneal cavity, and so on until the blood get cleaned 100%.
. Kidney transplantation
Kidney transplantation is done by removal of a kidney from normal person (called donor) and surgically implant it into another diseased person (called recipient).
In case of success, there will be no need for any other therapeutic measures, just few restrictions will be in your mind, and some instructions will be done concerning your diet and life style.
So, we can say the choice of kidney transplantation has many advantages; no dialysis, few dietary restrictions, better and more comfortable life style.
After this operation you should apply the following instructions:
Minimal dietary restriction: healthy diet with minimal amount of fat & salt.
Immunosuppressive drugs should be taken in time: to avoid tissue rejection caused by the immune system.
Regular kidney function investigations should be done: to evaluate the functional state of the kidney, and to diagnose any initial signs of organ failure or rejection.
Good hygiene and avoid any source of infection.
